What is Lowry Landfill Superfund Site and where is it located?
Lowry Landfill Superfund Site is located east of Aurora, Colorado near the intersection of Quincy Avenue and Gun Club Road in Arapahoe County, 15 miles southeast of downtown Denver. From 1965 until 1980, it accepted municipal and liquid industrial waste from businesses and residences in the Denver metro area. The 507-acre site was declared a Superfund site in 1984, when the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency placed it on its National Priorities List. The landfill is owned by the City and County of Denver and operated by Waste Management of Colorado, Inc.
